Mars and back with the world of print!

I have learned so much about the amazing and diverse world of print over the past ten months or so since I have been working with AD. I am also realising just how much print surrounds us on a daily basis.

Last week, I recently upgraded from my outrageously slow old BlackBerry to finally become a member the iPhone 4S ‘cool crew’. As I was handed my new phone by the friendly shop assistant, he offered me one free protective iPhone case from the choice of around twenty colourfully printed ones.

As I stood staring at the two hanging lines of cases, I began to wonder if I should pick the most expensive one as they’re giving it to me for free. Or would it be a better idea to choose something that I actually really like?  Then, something caught my eye, (and no it wasn’t the extremely cute shop assistant) a case, a printed case that was so spectacular that I just had to take a closer look.

As I got it down from the hanger my eyes lit up, it wasn’t just any ordinary printed case, it was 3D AND it was outer space, beam me up Scotty! With the recent news of Nasa’s Curiosity landing on Mars, I was intrigued as looking at it, you felt as though you could pick up the little planets and play with them (but obviously, you can’t).

It got me thinking. It’s incredible how much print has evolved, it started with block printing, and now you can pretty much dive into your printed items!

What next, printing on Mars? Well, it’s only a matter of time Captain!
