In a few days time we’ll all be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which will mark 60 years of her reign.
Very much like the more permanent dates on our calendars such as Christmas, Easter or Mothering Sunday, the Jubilee celebrations are another occasion when retailers themselves will be celebrating as they make the most out of the many street parties planned up and down the country, and supplying us with all the food and accessories to match. Countless boxes of finger foods, family sized bags of sugary delights, acres of paper tablecloths and rolls of colourful bunting are no doubt waiting to be purchased in a supermarket near you.
So it was when I recently purchased a bag of my favourite hard boiled sweets, produced by a British brand that manufactures here in the UK, I was really impressed with the packaging – a Union Jack flag wrapped around the entire pack, but one that used some interesting colours and a slightly less traditional design, to great effect. And it was this exciting piece of packaging that got me thinking; not only is the Diamond Jubilee going to be a celebration of our Queen, this Jubilee celebration is going to represent a celebration for all things brilliant about Britain and its industries, especially our favourites, print and packaging.
As we raise our glasses to HRH Queen Elizabeth II let’s also raise one to the best of British, and we look forward to the next 60 years of our monarchy, and the next 60 years of innovation in our country.
