Flex-Punkt invests in second FLEXCEL NX System from Miraclon following successful FLEXCEL Prime Plate transition

New investment increases capacity and production security as the company builds on more than a decade of FLEXCEL NX Technology

Flex-Punkt Druckformen GmbH has strengthened production security and expanded its flexographic platemaking capacity with the installation of a second FLEXCEL NX Wide 4260 System from Miraclon. Combined with its recent transition to FLEXCEL Prime Plates, the investment gives the German prepress and platemaking specialist greater flexibility to manage peak workloads and urgent customer requirements while building on more than 13 years of experience with FLEXCEL NX Technology.

Second FLEXCEL NX System builds on 13 years of technology investment

Commissioned in September 2026, the second FLEXCEL NX Wide 4260 System builds on Flex-Punkt’s long-standing investment in FLEXCEL NX Technology. The company first installed a FLEXCEL NX Wide 4260 System in 2013, one of the earliest installations in the market, and has since built a strong reputation for supplying high-quality flexographic printing plates that deliver process reliability and exceptional reproducibility. In 2023, its FLEXCEL Plate production was officially certified through the Miraclon Certification Program.

“Flex-Punkt has always placed great importance on quality, innovation and service,” says David Weber, Managing Director. “Production security was the primary reason for investing in a second FLEXCEL NX System. Having two systems also gives us the flexibility to absorb peak workloads and respond more efficiently to urgent customer requests while maintaining smooth and reliable production.”

The new FLEXCEL NX Wide 4260 System now handles the majority of Flex-Punkt’s day-to-day production. The original system remains in regular use, operating in parallel when additional capacity is required or when special projects could otherwise disrupt normal production workflows.

Over the past 13 years, the original FLEXCEL NX System has continued to support new capabilities through software upgrades, enabling the company to take advantage of Miraclon’s multi-form plate surface patterning, including its latest triple-form patterning technology, PureFlexo™ Printing. Flex-Punkt also uses Automated Plate Layout to streamline plate layout and increase automation in platemaking.

“A key benefit for us has been the ability to introduce these developments through software upgrades without replacing the core imaging hardware,” adds Weber. “This has greatly extended the value of our original investment while continually adding new capabilities to a proven platform.”

Successful early transition to FLEXCEL Prime Plates

Flex-Punkt was involved in beta testing of the FLEXCEL Prime Plate ahead of its official launch in March 2026 and became one of the first companies to fully transition to FLEXCEL Prime Plates soon after. Vadim Becker, Managing Director, Flex-Punkt, describes the changeover as exceptionally straightforward: “We did not need to create new curves with our printer customers, and all existing jobs could be imaged and printed on FLEXCEL Prime Plates without any adjustments.”

The benefits have extended into plate production. “The significantly faster post-exposure process has improved our time management and reduced pressure on what used to be a bottleneck in our finishing workflow,” says Becker.

Participation in beta testing also gave the Flex-Punkt team an opportunity to contribute practical production feedback as the technology was developed and implemented. “It gave us the opportunity to bring our day-to-day production experience into the process and work closely with Miraclon as the technology developed,” says Becker. “We really value that kind of partnership. The open exchange of ideas, quick implementation of new developments and shared focus on finding the right solutions have been an important part of our relationship with Miraclon for many years.”

Building for the next generation

Flex-Punkt was founded in 1994 as a three-person business. Since then, the company has grown steadily and today employs more than 60 people. From its site in Melle-Wellingholzhausen, Flex-Punkt serves customers in flexible packaging, napkin and gift-wrap printing, as well as a number of regional brand owners. Its services encompass the complete prepress process, from artwork and reproduction through proofing to the production of high-quality flexographic printing plates.

Alongside continued investment in technology, Flex-Punkt has also planned carefully for the future of the business. Company founder and Managing Partner Günther Weber began the generational transition at an early stage. Today, the business is led by an expanded leadership team that includes Managing Directors David Weber and, since 2024, Vadim Becker.

“We have always taken a long-term approach to developing the business, and these investments are an important part of that,” concludes Weber. “With additional capacity, our transition to FLEXCEL Prime Plates complete, and a strengthened management team in place, we have the capacity and flexibility to keep growing while delivering the quality, consistency and service our customers expect.”
