Perpetual Print

Author: Lucy O’Dea

As I sat on the train to London the other day, I started to take notice of the way my fellow travellers were busying themselves during their journey. Many were wired in to their headphones listening to music, others were texting on their phones and a couple had Kindles and iPads. But what struck me was just how many commuters boarded the train with a copy of the Metro – good old fashioned hard copy print – and the world’s largest free newspaper with a print run of 1.3m copies! These passengers duly digested the latest news before popping their copy on the seat beside them and then leaving at their respective stops. What fascinated me was what happened to these newspapers next. A new occupant would come along, pick up the same newspaper, read it, put it down and then leave the train and so on. My journey in to London is quite a lengthy one, so you can imagine just how many times this happened.

On The Road

Author: Patrick Anderson

I have recently enrolled in the government’s Cycle2Work scheme and am now the proud owner of a 7-gear hybrid bicycle named Mary-Lou (after the ‘heroine’ of Jack Kerouac’s aptly titled novel On The Road). Like thousands of other Londoners encouraged and inspired by both the introduction of the ‘Boris Bikes’ back in 2010 and by Bradley Wiggins’s haul of Olympic gold last summer, I have waved goodbye to the much-maligned public transport system and have taken to the road.

3D printing, what’s all the fuss?

Author: AD Communications

3D printing is making headlines on a daily basis across many industries; from medical scientists creating a replacement ear using a 3D printer and injections of living cells, to a musician 3D printing his very own ‘Stradivarius’ Violin made up of 3D printed instruments. It is this exciting new technology and innovation that seems to be driving the future of print. Well, it is certainly getting people talking about it!

What a waste!

Author: AD Communications

When my package from a well known online shopping site arrived I thought, “I’m sure I didn’t order that much!” and I was right, I didn’t. The small item I’d ordered was lost among the reams of brown packing paper and in a box big enough to fit my 2 year old in!

From journalism to marketing communications – making the transition

Author: AD Communications

Making the move from journalism to marketing communications is a route that many journalists consider at some stage of their careers, and it’s a journey I have been on since last summer after I joined AD Communications as Senior Account Executive.

Football Print Power

Author: Joanna Muggeridge

I recently spent the afternoon at my ‘nephew-in-law’s’ 6th birthday party, and through all the torn wrapping paper and enough presents to last him a few months (in my opinion!) his most coveted acquisition was hundreds (literally) of the Topps Trading football cards that he is collecting. He was slotting them all neatly into place in the special printed folder, and making piles of ‘swopsies’ for those he has more than one of, to trade with his playground buddies.

How I ended up working in PR

Author: Michael Grass

I never knew I wanted to work in PR. In fact, as is the case with many students in their early twenties, I was never really sure what I wanted to do once my Journalism degree was over. I still remember sitting in my flat applying for jobs, struggling to come up with sentences that would sum up my skills and expertise in the most stylish way possible.

Hey, nice nail wrap!

Author: Lucy Williams

It was a bitterly cold and rainy morning and I was sitting at my desk, with a hot coffee in my hands, attempting to think up my next blog idea; I wanted something different, something that no one else had thought of, then, noticing my fingers wrapped around my coffee mug, it came to me, nail art!

#prnightmare

Author: Kerry Rice

Earlier this year, when we all thought the rain would never stop, I went to the Isle of Wight Festival. Overall it was a great experience. The musicians made it clear how much they appreciated us braving the mud, and the food stall holders (one of whom made the best breakfast burrito I will ever eat no matter how long I live) made the swamp-like conditions more hospitable.

Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble

Author: Lucy Williams

A year ago today I started at AD, which is scary in itself! But as I now know the print industry a little better and have seen some of the weird and wonderful things print can do, it seemed fitting to write a blog which ties in nicely with my first anniversary and today’s date: Halloween.

A day in the life of an AE at AD Communications

Author: Ellie Bunce

I live in Hampshire, so my morning start is a bit earlier than most in the office. At 6h30 my alarm goes off and I stumble out of bed, have breakfast and usually leave the house around 7h30. My commute to Esher includes a morning battle with the A3 traffic arriving at the office around 8hr30, always with my favourite soya Vanilla Latte in hand.
